This report of the SPIN-UP (Strategic Programs for Innovations in Undergraduate Physics) project presents the results of a study of undergraduate physics programs in the US. The effort studied the elements of bachelor's degree programs that were successful in the 1990s to maintain or increase the numbers of majors. Broad surveys and site visits to exemplary departments were performed. Common aspects of successful programs and recommendations for physics education are included.
