Ejs TPT Ladder Demonstration Model
written by
Mario Belloni
The Ejs TPT Ladder Demonstration model displays the statics and dynamics of a ladder leaning against a wall. The standard (textbook) statement of this problem assumes that there is no frictional force between the wall and the ladder, but a frictional force between the ground and the ladder. In the simulation you can set the initial lean angle and the coefficients of static and kinetic friction between the floor and the ladder. You can modify this simulation if you have Ejs installed by right-clicking within the plot and selecting "Open Ejs Model" from the pop-up menu item.
Ejs TPT Ladder Demonstration model was created using the Easy Java Simulations (Ejs) modeling tool. It is distributed as a ready-to-run (compiled) Java archive. Double clicking the ejs_tpt_ladder_demo.jar file will run the program if Java is installed. Ejs is a part of the Open Source Physics Project and is designed to make it easier to access, modify, and generate computer models. Additional Ejs models for Newtonian mechanics are available. They can be found by searching ComPADRE for Open Source Physics, OSP, or Ejs. Please note that this resource requires at least version 1.5 of Java (JRE).
Confusion
Author: Michael Grams The ladder falls for any value of theta and any value of the coefficient of static friction. What am I missing?
