This web page contains an interactive simulation of static and kinetic friction on an object resting on a horizontal surface. The user can control the block's initial velocity, the force applied to it, its mass, and the coefficients of static and kinetic friction. The object's motion, a free body diagram, and the energies in the problem can be displayed. This item includes step-by-step instructions for its use in a class.
This resource is part of a larger collection of simulation-based physics modules sponsored by the MAP project (Modular Approach to Physics).
