This applet demonstrates Kepler's Second Law by showing the motion of an object in a gravitational orbit. Equal areas swept out during the orbit are shown. The user can either chose a planet from a list, with the correct semi-major axis and eccentricity, or choose their own values for the size and shape of the orbit. The velocity and distance from the sun are given as a function of the time, and the area of the orbit studied can be changed.
This applet is part of a large collection of physics applets available in a wide range of languages. Please note that this resource requires at least version 1.4.2 of Java Applet Plug-in.
