David Stern
This web site contains an elementary discussion of the physics of airplane flight. Concepts of frames of reference and vectors are used to explore lift, drag, and thrust for wings swept backward or forward and to propellers. The linked web page contains a discussion about the dependence of lift and drag on speed and altitude, using the "Voyager" non-stop flight around the world as an example. There is also a link to a related lesson plan. This is part of the extensive web site "From Stargazers to Starships" that uses space science and exploration to motivate the study of basic concepts in physics and astronomy.
