This video illustrates the concept of beats in a simple computer experiment using an online tone generator. Running the tone generator in two different browser windows gives the user a way to listen to the interference between tones at different frequencies. The connection between the difference in tone frequencies and the observed beat frequency is immediately apparent.
This video is part of AAPT Films, a collection of videos focused on teaching physics topics through simple experiments and demonstrations.
