This teacher's guide and education module contains student problem-solving activities related to the use of the Earth's soil and mineral resources. These materials are developed for use in middle schools. The materials are divided into three units covering the local use of natural resources, the importance of minerals and soil, and sustaining these resources. The units each contain several activities, teaching tips, supplementary resources, and interdisciplinary connections. A sub-set of these activities constitute a project on locating a highway.
