Website Detail Page

written by the Kansas State Physics Education Research Group and Dean A. Zollman
This resource, part of the Spectroscopy Lab Suite, illustrates the physics of a Ruby Laser.  Students can create conduction and impurity bands, and electronic transitions, to match the observed spectra of the Laser.  The energy of the levels and the pumping energy for the flash tube can be adjusted.

Ruby Laser:

Covers the Same Topic As Helium Neon Laser

The Helium Neon Laser activity explores the same principle as the Ruby Laser activity, but is complicated by the need to include transitions between additional energy levels.

relation by Bruce Mason
Is Part Of Spectroscopy Lab Suite

The Spectroscopy Lab Suite contains a collection of activities involving spectra from gasseous and solid-state sources.

relation by Bruce Mason
Covers the Same Topic As Diode Laser

The Diode Laser Activity illustrates the same principle as the Ruby Laser activity, but must include additional energy bands.
