written by the Kansas State Physics Education Research Group and Dean A. Zollman
This resource, part of the Spectroscopy Lab Suite, simulates optical transitions in gasses.  Absorption spectra from gas emission tubes illuminated by a white light are shown, along with a tool for students to create bound state energy levels and electronic transitions to match the observed spectra.

Gas Lamp Absorption:

Is Required By Hydrogen Spectroscopy

Hydrogen Spectrum uses the Gas Lamp Absorption to connect observed absorption spectra to transitions between atomic energy levels.

relation by Bruce Mason
Is Referenced By Applying Spectra and Energy Diagrams to Learn About Stars

This tutorial uses the Gas Lamp Absorption tool to connect the absorption spectra of a hydrogenic star and electronic transitions in hydrogen.

relation by Bruce Mason
Covers the Same Topic As Gas Spectroscopy

Gas Lamp Emission complements Gas Lamp Absorption by allowing the learner to perform the same electronic transition activities while observing the emission spectrum.
